Every production we deliver is bespoke, but this project pushed that approach to a new and exciting level. The central challenge was clear from the outset: filming a self-checkout in situ within a supermarket wasn’t possible due to access restrictions.

Our solution was to recreate the environment using green screen, replacing the background with a realistic supermarket setting in post-production. With SeeChange based in Manchester and the self-checkout units difficult to transport, we took a portable green screen studio directly to their offices, bringing the production to the client rather than the other way around.

In a single day, we captured eight separate demo sequences. This was only achievable through detailed pre-production planning: sourcing the correct background, carefully framing each shot to match the intended environment, and ensuring consistency across all footage.

Post-production played a crucial role in bringing the vision to life. Through a combination of advanced keying techniques, precise masking, and carefully layered sound design, we created a seamless and convincing final result.

An additional challenge emerged during the process: the need to update the software displayed on the self-checkout screens. We achieved this by recreating the interface through animation, then integrating it frame by frame using meticulous masking to embed the new visuals convincingly.

This project not only delivered a strong final product but also pushed our technical capabilities further making it a particularly memorable and rewarding piece of work.
